I've been thinking a lot about Africa ever since I traveled there last summer. It was difficult for me to write about it... but now I think it's time.
Let me explain
The title of this blog is "I am you as you are me" - or Ubuntu - means that whatever happens to me, happens to you or more specifically we are interconnected.
I believe the people of Africa that I encountered understand that and dramatically changed they way that I see that interconnectedness.
That is something that I think we as American's forget until tradgedy happens. We forget that we - the entire world is interconnected. I believe we forget, how one person's action can create either a response or reaction in another system or person.
For example - if I slap you/ you'll slap me or at the very least call the authorities or you'll slap your dog
Now, maybe think about it without the line of violence - for example - if I send you love and light / at some point and time that love and light will be sent out from you either to me or to another person.
I hope that this doesn't come off as some hippie banter because it's not. It's a reality that this world truly needs in light of all that isn't about sending love and light to each other.
While in Africa, Mnene Zimbabwe, I met the girls pictured above and it was remarkable. Some of them I have even connected with on facebook (amazing invention) and I remember their first question to me when they saw my ipod... "do you know Miley Cyrus?" One of the craziest question I've ever been asked! But it made me laugh, because here in this poor school yard, at a revival for the local churches, these girls asked me about Miley Cyrus and right there - Interconnectedness began.
A connection that started a conversation about love of self, love of others, God, my kids, my hair, their dreams and countless other things. These girls connected and we are forever interconnected because of being open to it.
What are we open to... are we open to being connected in the positive? are we open to being connected to love and light? Or are we going to continue sending the negative and connecting that way...
I know, I don't want to send that out into the universe any longer... I want to send love and light and playfulness - won't you join me.
